Anna Nicole Smith Opera Coming Soon

The production has been co-written by Richard Thomas. He is one of the creators of the controversial Jerry Springer: The Opera. Also co-written by Mark-Anthony Turnage, a well known British composer.

Anna Nicole will be played by the Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek. The life of Anna Nicole will be up front & personal for all to see, not that it is not already.

This new opera is part of the Royal Opera House’s commitment to produce a new opera for its main stage every two years.

Critics said the involvement of Thomas meant that it was likely to be an “off the wall” production.

Last month, April 2010, the appeals court officials in Los Angeles turned down a request to reconsider their decision not to award ANNA NICOLE SMITH money from her late husband’s, J. Marshall Howard’s estate. The ruling was that Dannielynn Birkhead (now 3 1/2 yrs. old) is not entitled to oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall’s money ($1.6 billion estate).

Marshall willed his estate to his son, E. Pierce Marshall, which launched a ferocious legal battle over the family fortune. Lawyers have kept the fire going even after Pierce Marshall’s death in 2006 and Anna’s death in 2007. It is still continuing, although losing steam quickly.

Anna had always maintained that her late husband promised her the money during their 14-month marriage, which ended with the 89 yr. old’s death in 1995 from natural causes.

The lawyers filed papers at the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in California requesting the judges reverse the ruling or they will take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

On a personal note I truly believe that this lawsuit was the demise of Anna. It was the one motivating factor for all parties concerned in the roller coaster life she led. It picked up speed & ended with a huge crash. I believe that had she not had this potential money looming over her head and as a dangling carrot in front of unscrupulous lawyers, etc., she would have led a much different life.

She had the means to earn a fantastic living and she didn’t need that money (as grand as it might have been to have). It became her “mission”, undauntingly she pursued it with every ounce of her energy and she got blindsided by it. Just my opinion you understand, but one I share with millions.

Proceeds will go to charity and a trust fund for their daughter, Dannielynn Birkhead.

Howard K. Stern, the executor of her Anna’s estate is helping Larry with the auction. Julien’s Auctions will run the sale June 26th at Planet Hollywood.

I love the music in this. It starts with J. Howard Marshall II, Anna’s 2nd husband. Then moves into Larry with most pics with Howard actually in the background. I didn’t catch that at first. I think Larry was more a part of Anna’s life then I had previously believed.

In the pictures of Howard & Anna, at least in this one video, I don’t get the overwhelming sense of love. It just seems like a friendly relationship. The mock wedding in The Bahamas, Anna obviously was “not all there.” It was just for show and nothing more. She looked like she was made to do it, not into it at all. Like a show, which she was famous for, but in this particular role she was NOT convincing.

I stand corrected, in one area — the one small snippet at 1:47 in the video, with Daniel, it was totally and undeniably believable. Her love for him shined through like a flicker of flame on a prism. It permeated and enveloped everyone in it’s path.

Watch the video and see if you get the same impression. This is after all, simply my impression, not anything more.

Anna met J. Howard Marshall II, a Texas billionaire who made his money in the oil business, while working in a strip club in Houston. He became one of her “regulars” lavishing her with gifts on a regular basis. They became friends and oddly enough lovers. Their 63 year difference in age didn’t seem to make much difference. During the four years that they knew each other Marshall asked her numerous times to marry him. It was only after she had made a name for herself at age 26 that she finally agreed.

Anna says she saved Marshall’s life one day when he stopped breathing. She quickly went to his rescue and resuscitated him after calling everyone she knew for help. It scared her immensely but she kept it together enough to help him out. If she had really been just after his money wouldn’t she have just let him go?

She say’s they had sex before their marriage and during as well as performing her “wifely duties”. There had always been speculation on that fact and Anna answered it publicly in interviews. That was viewed as a very odd relationship for most people and the fact that she loved him enough to “perform” for him made it seem more bizarre. I guess it is hard to image that sort of thing when the person you are envisioning it with is old enough to be your grandfather or even great-grandfather huh?

According to Anna’s half-sister Donna Hogan she felt that Marshall was Anna’s security blanket, basically. Her opinion of their marriage was that he made her sister feel secure, safe and well-taken care of. That is a very common reason for a woman to get married, there is nothing out of the ordinary here. I would venture to say that is probably the most common reason of all!

Anna Nicole Smith as we know her started her life out on November 28, 1967 as Vickie Lynn Hogan born in Harris County, Texas. She was the only child of Donald Eugene Hogan (born July 12, 1947) and Virgie Mae (née Tabers; born July 12, 1951). Her father didn’t stick around her long in her life as he left both her and her mother. They were only married for two years. Subsequently Anna was raised by her mother Virgie and Elaine (Todd) Tabers, wife of Virgie’s brother, Melvin Tabers. Anna had a half-brother, David Luther Tacker, Jr., who was one year older than her.

Her mother then remarried two years after her divorce to Anna’s father to Donald R. Hart and they gave birth to Anna’s younger half-brother Donald Ray Hart, Jr. It was after this marriage that Anna had her first name change, even her first name! Her new name was now Nikki Hart. She obviously thought this marriage would last, but alas it did not. It did make it 12 years. Her mother went on to marry many times more to Joe D. Thompson (1987, divorced 1991), James T. Sanders (1996, died 1996), and James H. Arthur (2000).

This carousel of men did not give Anna the right idea of what a good relationship was all about. Her mother was NOT the best of role models for her. It is no wonder that she did not have good luck in this department.

Her father also remarried and had more children, giving Anna more half-siblings, Donna Hogan (born 1971), Donald Ray Hogan (born 1973), and Amy Hogan (born 1975).

Her next name change came at age 17 when she married Billy Wayne Smith, who was 16 and a cook at the restaurant where she worked. The couple married April 4, 1985 and next year she gave birth to their son Daniel Wayne Smith. She and Billy separated in 1987 and she moved to Houston with one-year-old Daniel. They were officially divorced February 3, 1993, in Houston. I have not heard why Anna waited so long to get divorced.

I do know that her persona she developed was around the “Smith” name so there had to be some good reasoning, probably because it was Daniel’s last name and thereby not being outwardly obvious that she wasn’t with his father. It was a different approach than what she experienced by her mother who changed her name constantly. It makes a woman feel more joined to their children, this I know from experience myself.

Things were moving fast for Anna, she went through different jobs, such as Red Lobster, WalMart, and then exotic dancing. This is when she was able to afford voice & modeling lessons that launched her career. She auditioned for Playboy and got the cover for March 1992 as Vickie Smith. She then vowed to be “The Next Marilyn Monroe” and she lived up to that promise, even if it killed her and ultimately it did. When this Playboy Playmate job got serious and she became Playmate of the Year in 1993 she had decided to change her name one more time to “Anna Nicole Smith”.

It wasn’t until she met J. Howard Marshall II, an oil billionaire, that she changed her name yet again. She finally divorced Billy and became Marshall’s bride, in a very unorthodox fashion in 1994. She had a two-year relationship with him previously where he reportedly lavished gifts on her and asked her to marry him several times. On June 27, 1994, Anna, 26, and Marshall, 89, married in Houston. TX. This resulted in a great deal of gossip about her marrying him for his money – gee I wonder why? Though she reportedly never lived with him, Smith maintained that she loved her husband, and age did not matter to her. Thirteen months after his marriage to Smith, Marshall died on August 4, 1995, in Houston of pneumonia.

I count five (5) name changes and only 2 due to marriages. That is a lot of rearranging of one’s persona’s in a very short time. With each change comes some alterations, something gained and something lost. I have a strong feeling that somewhere within those changes some of the good stuff, the “glue-that-binds” kind of stuff got lost. What do you think?

I don’t think it was the changes due to marriage that did the most damage. I think it all started with the remarriage of her mother and the letdown of him leaving just like her own father that did the most damage – she changed her name to his and now this bond was broken for her as well as her mother. Then the next most powerful change was the “Sex Goddess” persona that emerged as “Anna Nicole Smith” and all the work of living up to a legend it brought with it.

My contention is that with every name change you go through, you change as well, for better or for worse, just like marriage vows!

Anna's 2nd Husband

Every news source I have read states that Anna Nicole’s billionaire husband, J Howard Marshall II, was an “octogenarian”.

I kept overlooking that figuring I was stupid and I had to admit to myself that I didn’t know before I would spend the time to investigate it. I thought maybe something to do with him giving away money like a philanthropist or maybe something to do with his type of work in the oil business.  I really didn’t have a clue.

Anna met J. Howard Marshall when she was working in Houston as a topless dancer in the late 80′s. Mr. Marshall passed away close to a year after the two tied the knot from pneumonia. The saga still continues today over the inheritance of Mr. Marshall’s estate with Dannielynn being the benefactor. Her father, Larry Birkhead is now keeping the fires going to see that his daughter gets the money her mother rightfully was entitled to.
